Signing PDFs privately, in your browser

Why sign a PDF in the browser?

Most e-signature services require you to upload your contract to their servers — and often to create an account or pay. That is a strange thing to do with a document you are signing precisely because it is sensitive.

This tool takes the opposite approach: your PDF is opened, annotated, and saved entirely on your own device. There is no server, no account, and no limit on how many documents you sign. Close the tab and nothing remains.

Three ways to make a signature

  • Draw — freehand with a mouse, trackpad, stylus, or finger. Best for the classic handwritten look.
  • Type — enter your name and pick a script or italic font. Fast and consistent.
  • Upload — use a photo or scan of your real signature (a PNG with transparency works best).

The signature is created once and can then be placed on as many pages and documents as you like during the session.

Placing the signature

Click anywhere on a page to drop the signature there. Drag it to fine-tune the position, and drag the corner handle to resize it while keeping its proportions. Click other pages to add the same signature again — useful for initialing several pages.

The position is calculated with the page's real geometry, so signatures land correctly even on rotated (landscape) pages.

Is an electronic signature valid?

For the vast majority of contracts, forms, and agreements, a visible electronic signature like the one this tool produces is accepted (e-signature laws such as the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS regulation recognize them). Some regulated processes specifically require a cryptographic digital signature with a certificate — that is a different technology and not what most everyday signing needs.

Frequently asked questions

Is this PDF signer really free?

Yes — free with no account, no watermark, and no limit on the number of documents or signatures.

Is my document uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is opened with pdf.js and the signature is embedded with pdf-lib, both running locally in your browser. Nothing is transmitted.

Can I sign on multiple pages?

Yes — after creating your signature, simply click on each page where it should appear.

Does the signature stay in the PDF?

Yes. The signature image is embedded into the PDF file itself, so it appears in every PDF viewer and prints normally.

Can I sign password-protected PDFs?

No — encrypted PDFs cannot be opened for editing. Remove the protection first (if you are allowed to) and try again.

Which browsers are supported?

Any modern browser on desktop or mobile: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
